Blue Scarab Entetainment, the studio that will be developing the cozy horse horror mystery MMO Equinox: Homecoming, will indeed be utilizing AI tools for its development. But according to studio CEO Colin Cragg, it will not be used to regurgitate stolen art or assets. In fact, Cragg’s interview with GamesRadar showed how he is deeply against how other game studios are using AI tech.

“[AI dev tools were] supposed to vacuum my house and fold my laundry,” he says. “With a lot of the grunt, unpleasant tasks being taken care of, that was supposed to free up the time of humanity to make music, to make art, to do things we’re passionate about. But some ridiculous Silicon Valley tech bros decided that, no, the AI is going to be the thing that’s going to make the music and the art now, and I’m not happy about it.”

Cragg goes on to explain that AI tools will be utilized to “remove the parts of production that [devs] don’t want to be doing,” and even talks about how some gamers are trying to pick out AI-created elements inside of showcased footage and how the studio has had to confirm things were made by hand. “Are we going to start replacing all of our concept artists with Midjourney? Hell no,” Cragg contends.

Meanwhile the game’s Twitter account has kept offering little gameplay previews, most of which involve finding discoveries around the MMO’s world while on horseback. This is a horse game, after all, just one that also has horror and mystery elements. But no AI-generated art elements.
