The last year for Final Fantasy XI has been a little slower in terms of new content for the title, but considering how long it has been getting monthly updates while still being theoretically in maintenance mode, you can’t really complain that much. And the latest dispatch from the development team looks back over the game’s last year with a new video as well as a glance ahead at what is planned for the future direction in 2025 and beyond.
According to the letter from producer and director Yoji Fujito, the most recent survey of players confirm that most players play solo or with a fixed group, and most have fulfilled their character progression goals, which means there’s a need for new adventures. This means revising the game’s character progression (which mostly means renewing and refining existing content) and upgrading Alter Egos while improving accessibility. Check out the full video just below to see some of what’s on deck for the near future; even after 23 years, there is life in Vana’diel.
