The concerted march of the Illuminate toward Super Earth went on unabated, and now the planet is under attack. This is the setup for the latest update to Helldivers 2, which directs players to the home planet in order to defend it from annihilation by the squids.

The newest war front will be almost exclusively urban judging by the screenshots and trailer associated with this update, which will also introduce several new mechanics for players to bear in mind such as the ability to direct squads of NPC SEAF troops and engage planetary defense cannons. Players are also being warned to be aware of civilians – and of the potential for punishment if they’re attacked by friendly fire.

Once again this update doesn’t add any new weapons or many new mechanics beyond what was added last week, but there has been a smaller fixer-upper-patch that addresses some crashes. Ideally this means players can focus on protecting the homeworld.
