Death Tides. It’s not just a potentially awesome name for a pirate metal band; it’s the team vs. team PvP mode arriving to Skull and Bones on Tuesday, May 27th, and Ubisoft Singapore is here to tell players all about it.
This mode opens shortly after the game’s opening sequence for new players or after completing a specific contract for existing players. After that, it’s a matter of entering the mode via the main menu, the journal, or from a vendor NPC located at Sainte-Anne or Telok Penjarah.
Death Tides will feature two game modes: Fleetfire, a team deathmatch mode; and Tidebreaker, where each team battles to gain points by holding a constantly moving control point. Both modes will be playable on four different maps and feature other mechanics like power-ups, ultimate abilities, and the option to use either pre-made ships or custom ships.
Naturally there are rewards on offer for those who enter the naval arenas of Death Tides, including infamy, points to advance up a battle pass, and XP that unlocks additional rewards for use in the PvP mode and in the wider game world.
Ubisoft points out that this mode isn’t wholesale replacing PvP in the open world and in fact hopes it will encourage more PvP fights while offering players a structured option. The studio also says that this mode is in a beta state, with the promise of improvement and iteration as players dive in. There’s also some more granular details offered about balance in this first version of the mode that PvP-loving pirates may want to read about.
