We appreciate a good portmanteau here at MOP, so when Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen summoned the word “dreamare” to describe its upcoming new Ashbreathers region and content, we all nodded in appreciation. Justin fell backwards and foamed at the mouth. Eliot’s monocle popped out. Bree sipped her tea and then scowled because it got cold.
Much of what’s being shared by Visionary Realms here is conceptual, with a focus on the upcoming zone’s visual storytelling that tries to convey the culture of this society without spelling it out in a journal. The area itself is described as charred and riddled with trenches, which were inspired by game designer Convo’s visit to Ypres, Belgium, where trenches from World War I still remain.
“We want to make sure every character, every prop, every corner of the zone feels like it belongs to the same fanatical culture, one that has clawed its way from a primal, ravenous state to a new, unsettling order under an unseen influence,” Convo’s post reads. “A few years back, I was shown some early story concepts for the faction – hinting at their transformation from something primal to their current, eerily organized state – and it was clear there was something special here.”
Despite the focus on eerie realmbuilding, there is a portion of the post that hints at what this means from a gameplay perspective, namely the weapons and armor loot that can be found in the area that carries a “ritualistic, scorched, and ceremonial” design language. So there will at least be some ashen shinies to get here too.
What’s missing is any sort of release timing for this new content – the most recent maintenance for the sandbox MMORPG brought no patch with it – so fans are just going to have to ponder the dreamare.
