Over the weekend, PC Gamer quoted the AMD’s Chief Architect of Gaming Solutions and Gaming Marketing (fanciest title ever) on what resolution people actually use.

“Majority of gamers are still playing at 1080p and have no use for more than 8GB of memory. Most played games WW are mostly esports games. We wouldn’t build it if there wasn’t a market for it. If 8GB isn’t right for you then there’s 16GB. Same GPU, no compromise, just memory options.”

As PC Gamer noted, he’s not wrong; Steam’s hardware data suggest more than half of Steam gamers are running on 1080p monitors.

It leaped out at me because I know we have some veteran MMO gamers around here who are eternally complaining about a lack of support from older MMOs for the highest-end resolutions. But if these data are accurate, I can almost understand why MMO studios drag their feet.
