Sea of Thieves Season 16 brings skeleton friends, a portable cannon, and Battle.net arrival

This week has brought on the latest season to the Sea of Thieves and it’s full of friends all the way down. There’s skeleton friends, possible new friends thanks to a new platform launch, and friendly cannons! Oh, wait, hang on, says here in the notes that this is a cannon of rage, not friendliness. Woops. Our bad.

One of the big ticket deals for this new season is the game’s arrival on Battle.net, complete with cross-play and cross-progression enabled. Being grandfathered in to this edition of the game if you already own a copy somewhere else isn’t, though; you’re going to have to pony up the cash if you’re using the Battle.net launcher.

In terms of content, that includes the new portable cannon of rage that could add all kinds of tactical wrinkles provided players keep the cannon cool with splashes of water, friendly skeletal pirates that can be dug up to assist in either combat or carrying treasure, and new goodies from the Reaper’s Bones faction including an all-new voyage. More is planned later for the season like the ability to break the seals on Reaper’s Chests and a second voyage for the Bones.

On top of this there are several additions and adjustments like another battle pass, more outpost cosmetics, promised stability and anti-cheat improvements, and a chonky list of fixes. Speaking of bugs, the launch already had a few problems with the cannon of rage but those appear to be squashed for the time being.
