The Daily Grind: Is there any MMO content that genuine scares you to take on?

Fine. This is how we live now.

There is a recurring misapprehension among a lot of diehard fans of progression content: They believe that MMO players who do not want to take on the hardest tier of content are just scared of it. This, of course, is not true. But I also think it’s important to note that it is adjacent to being true. Oh, sure, you are not opting out of dealing with Toxic McScreamsatyou and his raiding guild, Judgmental Nimrods, because you are scared; you are opting out because this does not sound fun. But if Goodtimes Friendlyface and her guild the Most Excellent of Sorts ask you to do something really hard with them, it’s understandable if maybe you are scared of letting them down or not knowing what to do.

Today, I want to trim away the performative social aspect to the extent that it is possible and ask if there is genuinely MMO content that scares you to take on. Not just stuff where you don’t find it fun, but content where you are afraid of looking bad or screwing up or just not doing it correctly. Content where you are, in fact, kind of scared. This is a safe space today.

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
