Fail to scroll almost all the way down in the patch notes for Lost Ark’s latest update and you’ll miss it, but one of the system updates made recently was not only the end of German and French localization support as was confirmed previously, but also the end of ZERTY and QWERTZ keyboard layouts within the MMOARPG as well, which are used in countries that speak those languages.
Well, fans did notice, and they made sure to let Amazon Games know, as several replies decried the decision as short-sighted, confusing, and one that will likely cause players in those territories a bunch of difficulties when it comes to hitting contextual keys. The pushback has been loud enough that Amazon responded with what amounts to a promise for some concession later but no return for these layouts now.
“The intent behind our change was to avoid player confusion and maintain consistency in key related guides and mechanics in-game. While our intent was in good faith, we will discuss what options we might be able to take moving forward. As of right now, we will not be immediately hot fixing or adding AZERTY and QWERTZ back. We will provide an update later after some additional discussion.”
The post further explains that the removal of these guides was to avoid “weird situations” with key-related guides in-game that would display QWERTY information and others showing AZERTY or QWERTZ guides even though French and German languages are no longer supported. Obviously that plan didn’t land and so some change of some kind will come later.
