World of Warcraft’s current expansion, The War Within, isn’t close to being over yet, but Blizzard’s already ramping up excitement for the next chapter of the Worldsoul Saga, Midnight. This week, the studio promoted an upcoming prequel novel for the expansion written by none other than former Blizzard writer, Christie Golden.

The novel is called World of Warcraft Midnight: Blood Ties, and it “chronicles the journey of Arator the Redeemer, son of High Exarch Turalyon and the legendary Alleria Windrunner, as he embarks on a journey investigating rumors of a strange glow emanating from the ruins of a long abandoned Legion base, which leads him to uncover more about himself, his parents, and their heroic legacy.”

Blood Ties will be released this November, but fans can pre-order it right now.

For those curious as to the status between Golden and her former employers (who let her go in early 2024 in one of Blizzard’s many rounds of layoffs), she offered an explanation that sounds as if there’s no ill will between the two.

“FINALLY I can talk about this! This one was special in very many ways, not least [because] of the great interaction with Blizzard Publishing, the WoW team, and my RHW editor, who supported me throughout,” Golden posted on May 21st. “Because some folks have asked: 25 yrs ago I started my first WoW novel, Lord of the Clans, as a freelancer. While I was at Blizzard as an employee, I STILL wrote the novels as a freelancer on my own time. And this was written as a freelancer, I’m not a formal employee of Blizzard.”
